Character Design- Von Ape Yre, the Vampire Monkey

A personal work of my own. Traditionnal model sheet and clean-up and color in Illustrator.
Just imagine the suave vampire cliche turning into a maddened baboon in full tantrum.

Storyboard Samples

I just realised I forgot to show some samples of storyboarding.
Here we go: 3 different styles. They are all extracts from longer projects and I reviewed the presentation so they could be seen on one page (the originals are on the traditional template).

Character Design for London based Studio

The brief insisted about how the characters and groups of characters will have to be immediately recognisable. As the storyline focused on streets sports I've seek inspiration in streets Arts and graffitis as well in Hip-Hop, Surf, Skate Punk codes for thoses ones. They are all inscribed in a trapezoidal shape. I also wanted flowing lines so they could fit nicely in the animation of action scenes.

The sames, inked.
Another group, inscribed in an inversed triangle. They are quite different of the humans because they are not, er, human-beings.

The baddies

At least, a colour study.

Character Design -Illustrator

I will see if I could animate this little fellow in Flash.
In this project my special point of interest will be the color issue.

Character Design- first research- 'Best Mates'

Those are the first designs I have done for Gemma's project when the lead characters were pandas. I was looking for geometrical shapes and also trying to find a good balance for the anthropomorphism that the story required. UPA's cartoons were one of the inspirations. However the anteaters doodles at the top decided Gemma's to choose them as main characters. I didn't realised at this time that they should walk on the back of their front paws. I corrected this error on the final designs.

Character Design- Best Mates

This is a work I have done for a fellow student for her graduation movie project.
The storyline was mostly about an unlucky Dom Juan in a zoo. First Gemma was thinking of pandas but then swapped for anteaters after I show her some doodles.

Character Design -SkySaga competition

This is a sample of what I submitted to this competition.
I won a wonderful Wall-E collector poster as a first prize.

Isken Roads character design research

This come from an old Tv series project I made some years ago. I put a lot of work in it so I will be able to post other samples from it. As you can see there are watercolor studies but I also completed some model sheets and storyboards.

Character Design Research

While I was doing the Jam Thief, I didn't stop sketching some character design research...

Masquerade- Character Design

Here are some character research made with brush and china ink.

Old Animatic- Masquerade

This is an old project. The music is from Otto Respighi's feste romane. It started like a short, became a tv series project (1 min per episode) and ended as a pilot compiling several episodes. Here is an animatic. Later I will post character design research, background arts and further informations about this project. The characters are inspired by the commedia dell'Arte.

Silhouette Animation

Here is a little short I have made when we were exploring silhouette animation. Ah Lotte Reininger...

Animation research

I just find those doodles I 've made two years ago when we had to animate this little zombie girl. I think there were some good ideas.

First post

This blog should be dedicated to my own sketches, however I will start with a link to some impressive work. Look at those life drawings and observational drawings! It is a so great inspiration but it makes me feel blue at the same time when I look at my work. Anyway you will soon be able to judge by yourself.
